Gopal Italia defends Chaitar Vasava, calls verdict politically motivated and an attack on tribal rights in Gujarat.

Senior Aam Aadmi Party leader and Visavadar MLA Gopal Italia has strongly defended party colleague Chaitar Vasava, claiming that the case against him represents an attack on tribal rights and democratic voices in Gujarat.

Italia alleged that Vasava’s only “crime” was raising awareness among tribal communities and consistently fighting for their rights over land, forest, and livelihood. He claimed that the conviction is politically motivated and aimed at silencing a growing tribal movement in the state.

Gopal Italia stated that Chaitar Vasava has been actively working on issues related to forest rights, land ownership, ST certificates, displacement compensation, and welfare schemes for tribal students. According to him, these efforts have made Vasava a strong voice for marginalized communities.

He further alleged that the legal action against Vasava was carried out through misuse of administrative machinery, including state agencies, witnesses, and legal officials.

Allegations of Fast-Track Verdict and Political Pressure

Raising concerns over the speed of the judicial process, Italia questioned whether similar cases involving government employees typically conclude so quickly. He claimed that the swift verdict raises serious questions about fairness and due process.

He also alleged that the judgment reflects a broader attempt to suppress tribal leadership and discourage activism related to land, forest, and social justice issues.

Call for Tribal Unity and Political Support

Addressing tribal youth across Gujarat, Italia urged unity and appealed for support for the Aam Aadmi Party. He said that the movement for Chaitar Vasava is not limited to one individual but represents the collective struggle of the tribal community.

He called for political response through democratic means, stating that the “people’s court” will ultimately decide justice in this matter.

Legal and Political Battle Ahead

Italia announced that the party will continue to fight the case in higher courts, including the High Court and Supreme Court, while also raising the issue on the streets and in legislative forums.

He reiterated that the struggle will continue until justice is achieved for Chaitar Vasava and the tribal communities he represents.
