Raj Bhavan Transformed into Center of Public Welfare: Governor Shri Mangubhai Patel
A delegation from the Department of Information and Publicity, Government of Goa, called on Governor Shri Mangubhai Patel at Raj Bhavan on Wednesday. The delegation, led by Shri Deepak Bandekar, Director of Information and Publicity, Goa, met the Governor during its five-day visit to Madhya Pradesh. Shri Bandekar felicitated the Governor by presenting Goa’s traditional attire and a memento, and introduced the members of the delegation. The Principal Secretary to the Governor, Dr. Navneet Mohan Kothari, was also present on this occasion.
During the interaction, Governor Shri Mangubhai Patel shared that, in line with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision, he has transformed the Raj Bhavan into a center for public welfare. He stated that he has maintained a consistent dialogue with citizens in remote and backward areas of the state. During the first two years of his tenure, he visited every district of Madhya Pradesh, fostering a close connection with underprivileged communities. The Governor Mangubhai Patel mentioned that he often joins beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana for community meals at their homes, and conducts visits to villages—selected at the last moment—to directly review public systems through personal contact and dialogue.

The Governor Mangubhai Patel discussed the health challenges faced by tribal communities, focusing on ‘Sickle Cell Anemia’. He elaborated on the symptoms, behavioral issues, and medical causes of the disease, along with the state’s efforts in control, treatment, and management. He informed that Prime Minister Modi has launched a national mission to eliminate sickle cell disease by 2047, and Madhya Pradesh is playing a leading role in this mission. Shri Patel explained that two components are vital for sickle cell control: genetic counseling, which encourages carriers not to marry each other, and screening to identify both patients and carriers.
He stated that the state has made remarkable progress, having screened more than 1.23 crore individuals out of an estimated tribal population of 1.9 crore. Over 1 crore digital genetic counseling cards have been distributed, and Prime Minister Modi himself distributed the first one crore of these cards, acknowledging Madhya Pradesh’s pioneering efforts. The Governor Mangubhai Patel urged the delegation members to prioritize awareness efforts on health and education among tribal communities and actively contribute to creating an environment conducive to inclusive development.
The delegation is on a five-day study tour of Madhya Pradesh, with scheduled visits to Indore, Ujjain and Bhopal for interactions with public relations officials and media organizations to understand their functioning.
