Gujarat: AAP leaders Praveen Ram, Raju Karpada, Ramesh Mer, and others released from jail after 108 days. Farmers’ fight against Kadda Pratha continues with full momentum.
Several Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders and farmers’ activists, including Praveen Ram, Raju Karpada, Ramesh Mer, Hansraj Bhalala, Vipul Hariyani, Vipul Makwana, and Jitendra Govindia, were released from jail after 108 days of incarceration. These leaders had been imprisoned for raising their voices against the controversial Kadda Pratha, a practice affecting thousands of farmers in Gujarat.
The release ceremony saw a warm reception from senior AAP leaders, including Gujarat state president Isudan Gadhvi, MLA Hemant Khava, state organization minister Ajit Lokhiel, Saurashtra zone in-charge Rajubhai Borkhataria, youth president Brijraj Solanki, state spokesperson Dr. Karan Barot, and other prominent party members, who welcomed the released leaders and activists.
During a press conference, farmer leader Praveen Ram addressed the media and said, “The BJP tried to suppress our voices by keeping us in jail for 108 days. But we did not break; we returned stronger. Just as 108 symbolizes resilience, we will now work for the people of Gujarat with the same determination.”

He added that several innocent farmers were also jailed as part of a deliberate conspiracy. “We faced extreme hardships, but our resolve remained unshaken. The struggle of farmers will not stop, and we will continue to fight for their rights. As long as there is life in our bodies, we will work for farmers and the people of Gujarat. I express my gratitude to the AAP leadership and media friends for standing by us during this time,” said Praveen Ram.
He further alleged that the BJP made a major mistake by imprisoning them, as it only made the movement stronger. Highlighting the conspiracy in Botad, he said that out of 100 people accused, not a single individual had video evidence against them, yet they were targeted under fabricated charges. Praveen Ram emphasized that such attempts to break the movement will be countered through upcoming local elections at the Taluka and District Panchayat levels.
AAP Gujarat state president Isudan Gadhvi stated that the BJP had initiated the Kadda Pratha to exploit farmers by monopolizing the APMC system. “Farmers had raised their voice against this system for years, but the BJP ignored them. Only after AAP leaders like Praveen Ram and Raju Karpada protested, the government issued a circular banning Kadda Pratha,” he said.
Gadhvi also compared the atrocities committed in Haddad village by local authorities to the Jallianwala Bagh massacre under General Dyer. He urged farmers not to vote for BJP candidates in upcoming local elections and reiterated that AAP will continue fighting for farmers’ rights across various issues.
AAP leader Ramesh Mer highlighted the brutal treatment faced by farmers during detention, comparing it to how authorities handle terrorists. He said farmers were denied water, food, and basic necessities for hours, and even those with serious health conditions, including cancer, were neglected. Despite these hardships, the farmers remained determined to ensure that their demands are met.
The release of these leaders is being hailed as a major victory for farmers and AAP in Gujarat, sending a clear message that the fight against exploitation will continue and that the voices of over 5.4 million farmers will not be silenced.
