Harjot Singh Bains hits back at BJP over an old 2018 school video, saying the school has since been upgraded with smart panels and better facilities.
Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains has criticised the circulation of an old school video that is allegedly being presented on social media as a recent visual of a Punjab government school.
Bains said the video being shared by BJP supporters dates back to the Congress government’s tenure in 2018 and has allegedly been used to create a misleading impression about the present condition of the school and the performance of the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government.
Harjot Singh Bains Questions BJP Over Old Video
Reacting to the controversy, Bains questioned why political supporters were using an old video to target Punjab’s education system. He argued that the school shown in the footage has undergone significant improvement since the video was recorded.
According to Bains, the school today has smart panels and improved facilities, including better and more hygienic washroom facilities for students.
The minister said that comparing the current school with an old 2018-era video without providing the present-day context is misleading and can give people a false impression about the state of government schools in Punjab.

‘Look at the Reality Today’
Bains urged people to verify the date and context of videos circulating on social media before believing political claims based on them.
He maintained that the Punjab government has been working to modernise government schools and improve the learning environment for students. The minister said that the transformation of schools should be judged on the basis of their present condition rather than old footage.
The minister also questioned the political motive behind circulating the footage, asking why an old Congress-era video was being used to criticise the current Punjab government.

Political Fight Over Punjab’s Education Model
Education has emerged as an important area of political debate in Punjab, with the Mann government highlighting improvements in government schools as part of its governance agenda.
Bains has repeatedly defended the state’s education reforms and argued that Punjab’s government schools are receiving upgraded infrastructure and modern learning facilities.
The latest controversy has once again brought social media misinformation and political campaigning into focus. Old photographs and videos can easily be presented as recent material, making verification particularly important for viewers.
Bains said that attempts to discredit Punjab by using outdated footage should be rejected and that the actual condition of schools should be examined before drawing conclusions.
Bains Slams ‘Petty’ Politics
Taking a strong political stance, Bains accused those circulating the old footage of resorting to petty tactics to malign Punjab and its education system.
He said political criticism is welcome, but it should be based on facts and the current ground situation rather than misleading or outdated material.
The minister’s remarks underline the ongoing political contest over Punjab’s education model, with the state government presenting school modernisation as one of its key areas of focus.
