The Haryana Government has taken a significant step to assist underprivileged families by increasing the financial aid provided under the Mukhyamantri Vivah Shagun Yojana. As per the revised provisions, backward class families will now receive ₹51,000 as Kanyadan assistance for the marriage of their daughters, up from the earlier amount of ₹41,000.
This proposal, approved by Chief Minister Sh. Nayab Singh Saini, is expected to benefit thousands of eligible families with an annual income of up to ₹1.80 lakh.
Beneficiaries of the Scheme
An official spokesperson explained that the primary aim of the scheme is to extend financial help for the weddings of girls from economically disadvantaged families. Under the updated guidelines:
-
Backward class families below the poverty line will now receive ₹51,000 as Kanyadan assistance.
-
Female sportspersons, regardless of category, will also be eligible for ₹51,000 for their own marriage.
-
The same amount will be provided to differently-abled couples where either the bride or groom is divyang.
Support Already in Place
Additionally, families from Scheduled Castes, Vimukta Jati, and Tapriwas communities continue to receive ₹71,000 as marriage assistance. Widowed, divorced, orphaned, or destitute women are entitled to ₹51,000 upon remarriage—provided they didn’t claim benefits under this scheme during their first marriage. Also, newly married divyang couples, where both partners are differently-abled, are eligible for ₹51,000 in support.
How to Apply
To receive the benefits, applicants must ensure their marriage is registered within six months of the wedding. The application process is designed to be simple and accessible. Interested individuals can apply through the official portal: shadi.edisha.gov.in.
