Haryana Govt has set up the ‘State Oilseeds Mission’ under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Sh. Anurag Rastogi to promote oilseed cultivation and work towards self-reliance in edible oils.
Haryana Govt ,The mission’s objective is to improve oilseed productivity and achieve self-sufficiency at the grassroots level by coordinating efforts with state agencies, district institutions, and the Government of India.
As per a notification from the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, the Additional Chief Secretary of the department will serve as the Mission’s Member Secretary. Other members include the Administrative Secretaries of Cooperation, Industry, Rural Development, Finance, and Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs; the Vice Chancellor of Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar; the Director of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare; Directors of ICAR institutes based in Haryana; the State Head of NABARD; and the Nodal Officer of the State-Level Bankers’ Committee. Representatives from oilseed farmer groups, cooperative societies, industries connected with oilseeds, vegetable oils, and seed production, along with officials from the Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Ministry, will also participate.
The mission’s key functions will involve preparing a State Oilseeds Action Plan aligned with national objectives, tracking indicators such as crop area, production, yield, and oil output, ensuring efficient financial allocation for infrastructure and processing, monitoring district-level missions and value chain stakeholders, and integrating efforts with central and state schemes.
The State Oilseeds Mission will convene at least twice a year to review progress and frame strategies for effective implementation. Subject experts may also be invited to its meetings whenever required.
