Haryana News : Haryana Urban Local Bodies Minister, Sh. Vipul Goel, announced that the state has achieved a significant milestone in the cleanliness sector. In the Swachh Survekshan 2024–25 rankings, Karnal and Sonipat have been selected for prestigious national awards. The award ceremony will be held on July 17 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, where President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, and Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister, Sh. Manohar Lal, will confer the honours. Haryana will be represented by Chief Minister Sh. Nayab Singh Saini and ULB Minister Sh. Vipul Goel at the event.
Sharing this development on Tuesday, Sh. Vipul Goel expressed pride in Karnal being named among the top 15 cleanest cities in the country. Sonipat, meanwhile, will receive the esteemed Ministerial Award for cleanliness. These accolades highlight the Haryana Government’s consistent dedication and innovative approach in furthering Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Mission.
Under the leadership of CM Nayab Singh Saini and Minister Goel, the state has emphasized public engagement, adoption of advanced technologies, and robust ground-level implementation to enhance cleanliness standards. As part of the 2025–26 state budget, plans have been rolled out to equip all urban local bodies with modern sanitation tools, including vacuum suckers, shredding machines, tree trimmers, road sweepers, patchwork machines, and water sprinklers. The effective use of these machines has significantly improved hygiene and sanitation across Haryana.
Over the past decade, Haryana has scientifically treated around 69 lakh metric tonnes of waste out of a total of 101 lakh metric tonnes from 75 legacy dumping sites. As a result, 109 acres of land have been reclaimed and are being transformed into green spaces, parks, and community areas.
Sh. Goel also mentioned his recent visit to the Green Coal Plant of NTPC in Varanasi. Inspired by this model, the Haryana government now plans to establish similar plants in cities like Faridabad and Gurugram. These facilities will convert 400–500 tonnes of daily solid waste into green coal, promoting efficient waste management, environmental sustainability, and clean energy production.
