CM Yogi Adityanath urges children to invest time in books over smartphones at Gorakhpur Book Festival 2025, promoting reading, knowledge, and inspiration.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has encouraged students and children to invest their time in books instead of spending excessive hours on smartphones. Speaking at the inauguration of the Gorakhpur Book Festival 2025 at Deen Dayal Upadhyay University (DDU) campus, CM Yogi Adityanath emphasized the importance of reading as a guiding force and lifelong companion.
The Gorakhpur Book Festival, organized jointly by the National Book Trust (NBT) and DDU University, will run from November 1 to 9. During the inauguration, CM Yogi Adityanath distributed books to school students and interacted with them, highlighting the value of literature in personal growth and knowledge acquisition.
CM Yogi stated, “Books are a true guide and a loyal companion. They provide inspiration, wisdom, and direction. Children should invest their time in reading instead of spending hours on smartphones, which can lead to distractions and mental stress.”
Referring to India’s ancient tradition of oral and written knowledge, the Chief Minister praised the legacy of sages who documented wisdom for future generations. He also mentioned the historical significance of Gorakhpur, noting that for over 100 years, Gita Press has been promoting Sanatan Dharma philosophy worldwide through its publications.

The nine-day festival will feature over 200 stalls, providing residents of Gorakhpur and eastern Uttar Pradesh an opportunity to purchase books across genres. CM Yogi Adityanath also highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement, “When citizens read, the country leads,” emphasizing that a knowledgeable citizenry is key to national progress.
During his address, CM Yogi Adityanath urged students to make use of libraries and digital learning resources. The state government has developed a network of libraries across 57,600 gram panchayats and revamped over 1.36 lakh primary schools with libraries and digital resources to promote reading habits among children.
CM Yogi Adityanath further recommended reading books such as PM Modi’s Exam Warriors, which provides guidance for students in academics and life. He stressed that books, whether related to religion, environment, technology, or AI, not only aid in examinations but also provide valuable lessons for navigating life’s challenges.
Concluding his speech, the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath urged students to reduce time spent on smartphones and channel their focus toward reading and learning, highlighting that consistent engagement with books fosters knowledge, discipline, and inspiration for a brighter future.
