AAP Gujarat chief Isudan Gadhvi slams BJP over forced smart meter installations, urging citizens to resist and exposing alleged corporate collusion. Read full details.
A heated controversy has emerged over the installation of smart meters across Gujarat, with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) state president Isudan Gadhvi strongly criticizing the BJP-led state government. The issue intensified following a statement by the Energy Minister, who declared, “Smart meters will be installed regardless of opposition.”
Reacting to the minister’s statement, Isudan Gadhvi hit back, accusing the government of prioritizing corporate interests over the public. He stated, “The minister claims that people have no choice, but hundreds of families have already seen a spike in their electricity bills. Many households cannot even pay their current bills, and now the government plans to impose prepaid smart meters, forcing citizens to pay in advance.”
Isudan Gadhvi emphasized that no official circular mandates the compulsory installation of smart meters. He urged citizens to resist forced installations, assuring that AAP would support them in this fight. “Wherever smart meters are being imposed, AAP will stand with the people,” he said, adding that older meters are being removed, and citizens are being forced to pay for new meters unfairly.

Criticizing the BJP and Gujarat government, Gadhvi accused them of collusion with corporate companies to extract thousands of crores from the public through advance deposits for smart meters, followed by prepaid electricity charges. “This is not just happening in Gujarat but across India, benefiting private companies at the expense of common citizens,” he added.
He further warned that even after municipal, taluka, and district elections, the government could resume the smart meter campaign. He appealed to the people of Gujarat to reject the BJP in local elections to prevent forced installation, stating, “If BJP wins, smart meters will be installed immediately, and exorbitant bills will follow. The only way to protect the public is to deny them even a single vote.”
Isudan Gadhvi concluded by urging citizens to contact AAP if they oppose smart meters, assuring them that party workers would support and stand by them in this fight against unfair policies.
