Isudan Gadhvi slams Gujarat’s BJP government over delayed drought relief, demanding crop compensation, irrigation water and fodder for farmers.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Gujarat president Isudan Gadhvi has strongly criticised the BJP-led state government over the delay in declaring Gujarat drought-affected, demanding immediate financial assistance, irrigation water and fodder for farmers and livestock. He alleged that farmers have been waiting for weeks for concrete action while their crops and livelihoods continue to suffer.
Speaking about the difficulties faced by the farming community, Isudan Gadhvi on Gujarat drought said he had been waiting for the past one-and-a-half to two months for the government to announce drought relief measures. He questioned when the state government would officially declare drought conditions and make arrangements for drinking water, irrigation and animal fodder.
Isudan Gadhvi Questions Delay in Drought Relief
Gadhvi accused the BJP government of making repeated assurances without taking timely action. He criticised leaders for saying that the government would do whatever was possible for farmers, asking why assistance had not been provided when the need was already urgent.
According to the AAP leader, many farming families are struggling with a shortage of food grains, while livestock owners are facing difficulties arranging fodder for their animals. He argued that farmers should not have to wait for further assurances when their crops and livelihoods are already under pressure.
Raising concerns about the situation in Kalyanpur and the Dwarka region, Gadhvi claimed that farmers and livestock owners were leaving their homes with their animals because of the prevailing difficulties. He urged the state government to assess the situation and take immediate steps to support affected families.
Comparison With Maharashtra’s Drought Decision
While criticising the Gujarat government, Gadhvi referred to Maharashtra, alleging that the BJP government there had declared drought-affected areas while Gujarat had yet to take similar action. He questioned why farmers in Gujarat were not receiving comparable attention and support.
Isudan Gadhvi on Gujarat drought also argued that relief assistance should not be portrayed as a favour from political leaders. He said public funds come from taxpayers and should be used to help people facing serious hardship, particularly farmers whose livelihoods depend on rainfall and agricultural output.
He challenged the state leadership to explain what practical assistance had reached affected farmers so far and called for urgent measures rather than further statements of intent.

AAP Leader Demands Compensation for Crop Losses
Gadhvi said farmers were not asking the government for luxury vehicles, helicopters or special privileges. Instead, he stressed that their demand was limited to declaring the state drought-affected where warranted, providing compensation for damaged crops and ensuring adequate water and fodder supplies.
The AAP leader highlighted concerns about seeds and crops sown for the winter season, claiming that agricultural losses had placed an additional burden on farming households. He demanded that the government assess crop damage and provide eligible farmers with financial assistance directly through their bank accounts.
Isudan Gadhvi on Gujarat drought further accused the BJP government of showing greater willingness to extend benefits to industrialists, including land-related concessions, than to respond quickly to farmers’ difficulties. He maintained that farmers deserved prompt support because they were seeking relief for losses rather than personal benefits.
Gadhvi Calls for Immediate Government Action
The AAP Gujarat president urged the chief minister and ministers to move beyond public assurances and announce concrete relief measures. He said the government should take responsibility for the difficulties faced by farmers and livestock-rearing communities instead of delaying decisions.
Gadhvi also criticised government leaders for travelling in air-conditioned offices, helicopters and charter aircraft while, according to him, rural families were struggling to sustain themselves and their livestock. He described the contrast as unacceptable and called for the administration to prioritise the needs of affected communities.
Isudan Gadhvi on Gujarat drought concluded by demanding that the government declare drought conditions wherever supported by an assessment, transfer relief funds to eligible farmers and arrange sufficient irrigation water and fodder for livestock. He said his party was not seeking political credit and that the priority should be delivering assistance to those in need.
The demand has brought the issue of drought preparedness, crop-loss compensation and rural water availability into the political spotlight in Gujarat. The government’s official assessment of drought conditions, any formal declaration and the relief measures announced will be important in determining the support available to affected farmers.
