Plane Crash in Ahmedabad Kills Over 170 Near City Airport | Air India Jet Hits Hostel
Ahmedabad News: In one of India’s worst aviation disasters in recent years, a devastating plane crash in Ahmedabad has left at least 170 people dead. The Air India flight, carrying 242 passengers and 10 crew members, went down just minutes after takeoff, slamming into a student hostel in the Meghani region near the city’s airport.

The aircraft had departed from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport at 1:47 pm and lost contact with air traffic control approximately nine minutes later. Witnesses reported a loud explosion, followed by black smoke billowing from the crash site.
Emergency services rushed to the scene but faced significant challenges due to the densely populated neighborhood. The plane crash in Ahmedabad also claimed lives on the ground, including students residing in the hostel that the aircraft collided with.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has launched an investigation into the cause of the disaster. Preliminary reports suggest a possible technical malfunction shortly after takeoff, although foul play has not been ruled out.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep condolences, calling the plane crash in Ahmedabad “a heartbreaking tragedy” and promised full support to the families of the victims. A compensation package and a national day of mourning have been announced.
