Kejriwal visits Ayodhya Ram Mandir amid donation row, calls FIR eyewash and alleges selective probe while government defends SIT investigation.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Friday visited Ayodhya, where he offered prayers at the Ram Mandir and Hanumangarhi temple amid the ongoing controversy over alleged irregularities in temple donations.
During his visit, Kejriwal strongly criticised the FIR registered in connection with the alleged embezzlement case, calling it an “eyewash” and claiming that only lower-level employees were being targeted while those higher up were being protected.
“Strictest Punishment for Guilty,” Says Kejriwal
Speaking after his temple visit, Kejriwal said he prayed for justice in the matter.
He stated, “I prayed that whoever is guilty of this ‘maha paap’ should receive the strictest possible punishment from God,” referring to the allegations linked to misappropriation of donations at the Ram Mandir.

Allegations of Selective Action in Investigation
Kejriwal alleged that the investigation lacks fairness and transparency. According to him, it is unlikely that such a case could continue for a long time without involvement beyond junior staff.
He claimed that while eight individuals have already been arrested, the deeper network behind the alleged scam is being ignored.
Background of the Ram Mandir Donation Row
The controversy surfaced after allegations of misappropriation of donation funds at the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. The issue escalated following reports of cash recovery from the residence of a temple employee.
The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust denied wrongdoing but supported a formal investigation. Following this, the Uttar Pradesh government formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) on June 14 to probe the matter.
FIR and Arrests Following SIT Report
An FIR was filed on June 25 at the Ram Janmabhoomi police station after the SIT submitted its preliminary findings. The report led to criminal charges against eight individuals, who have since been arrested.
The case includes charges under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including criminal breach of trust, cheating, and conspiracy.
Government and BJP Response
Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak said the state government is treating the matter seriously and assured strict action against anyone found guilty.
BJP leader Dinesh Sharma also defended the investigation, stating that the trust itself had initiated the complaint and cooperated with the probe.
