The programme aims to provide play-based learning kits to nearly 7.5 lakh children aged 3 to 8 years, marking a significant shift toward joyful and activity-driven education.
Backed by an investment of ₹9.3 crore, the Khed Pitara Initiative Punjab is being positioned as a long-term strategy to enhance early childhood education and build a stronger academic foundation for the state’s future generations.

What is Khed Pitara?
Khed Pitara is a comprehensive Learning-Teaching Material (LTM) kit specially designed for children between 3 and 8 years of age. Unlike conventional rote-learning methods, the Khed Pitara Initiative Punjab promotes experiential and activity-based education.
The kit includes toys and manipulatives, puzzles, flash cards, story cards, posters, activity books, puppets, and structured teacher resource materials. Each component has been carefully curated to support language development, foundational numeracy, creativity, problem-solving skills, and social-emotional growth.
How the Initiative Will Benefit Students
Through the Khed Pitara Initiative Punjab, classrooms will become more inclusive and engaging. The focus is on strengthening foundational literacy and numeracy while reducing stress often associated with early schooling.
Instead of passive listening, students will actively participate in games, storytelling sessions, group activities, and interactive exercises. By investing at the foundational stage, the Khed Pitara Initiative Punjab aims to address learning gaps early and prepare children for long-term academic success.
Large-Scale Distribution and Investment
The Punjab Government has completed procurement, and distribution is in its final phase. Kits will be delivered to all Government Primary Schools by April 1. Teachers handling foundational classes will also receive structured guidance to ensure effective classroom implementation.
Punjab’s Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains emphasized that investing in children aged 3 to 8 is equivalent to investing in Punjab’s next two decades. He stated that the Khed Pitara Initiative Punjab reflects a strategic commitment to building strong academic roots that will shape the state’s workforce and leadership in the years ahead.
A Vision for Punjab’s Future
The Khed Pitara Initiative Punjab underscores the government’s broader mission to modernize education and move away from rote memorization toward creative, child-friendly pedagogy. By nurturing curiosity, confidence, and innovation from the earliest years, the initiative seeks to reshape the educational landscape of Punjab.
With this bold step, the Bhagwant Mann Government signals its intent to make foundational education the cornerstone of Punjab’s long-term growth and development.
