Union Minister Khattar welcomes Kiran Choudhary as she switches to BJP on the eve of Haryana polls.
Kiran exhorts followers to visit each community in turn: “We must make sure the BJP wins a third term in office in Haryana.”
After 20 years of affiliation with the grand old party, Kiran Choudhary, a veteran of the Haryana Congress, five-term member of parliament, and daughter-in-law of the late state leader Chaudhry Bansi Lal, joined the BJP on Wednesday, promising to “work tirelessly to ensure the ruling BJP returns to power in the state for a third time in a row.”
Rahul Gandhi, the former president of the Congress, was celebrating his 54th birthday at the capital’s AICC offices when he joined the BJP.
In the presence of Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh, and BJP Haryana co-in charge Surinder Singh Nagar, Kiran,69, and her daughter, former MP Shruti Choudhary, officially became members of the BJP at the party office here.

In her inaugural speech, Kiran addressed Khattar as her elder brother and lavished him with adulation, saying, “Khattar ji is my biggest inspiration,” avoiding any criticism of the Congress or party leaders. I couldn’t say it before, but I can say it now without hesitation. ML Khattar strove to better the lives of the youth and put an end to corruption in Haryana. He put an end to the Parchi-Kharchi system.We used to spar even as members of the opposition, but I was always amazed by Khattar ji’s forbearance, tenacity, and mastery over all his efforts.
Speaking first, Khattar recalled occasions when he and Prime Minister Modi collaborated with Bansi Lal.
“The BJP does not distinguish between the old and the new. Khattar hinted that Kiran would be sent to the Rajya Sabha soon and that her daughter might run in the upcoming state elections. “Whoever joins this ocean becomes its integral part and is given due respect,” Khattar remarked.
Twenty years ago, the Haryana Vikas Party, led by Bansi Lal, amalgamated with the Congress.
Wednesday, according to Kiran Choudhary, was yet another significant day as the BJP merged with her, all of her supporters, and the legacy of Bansi Lal.
