Delhi, January 2026: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasized the crucial role of youth participation in shaping the city’s development during the special dialogue program “Lunch with Rekha Gupta”. On the eve of National Youth Day, CM Gupta discussed the policies of the past 11 years, her government’s work over the last 11 months, and the vision for the next 11 years, highlighting how collaborative efforts between the government and youth can transform Delhi.
Youth at the Core of Delhi’s Growth
CM Rekha Gupta underlined that the backbone of a developed Delhi is its youth. She encouraged young people to not just highlight problems but actively contribute to solutions. “Dialogue, cooperation, and determination are essential for the capital’s development. When youth engage constructively, the face of not only Delhi but the entire country can change,” she stated.
During the discussion, the CM Rekha Gupta listened to questions, ideas, and suggestions from the youth, presented her government’s report card for the first 11 months, and shared the roadmap for Developed Delhi. CM Rekha Gupta also highlighted that celebrating Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary is symbolic of youth energy, innovative thinking, and nation-building spirit, which the government aims to integrate into policy-making.
Garbage Mountains to be Cleared by 2026
Addressing the issue raised by youth representative Prafull Garg, CM Gupta outlined the government’s strategy to eliminate Delhi’s large garbage mounds in Ghazipur, Bhalswa, and Okhla. She stated that the city generates 10–11 thousand metric tons of waste daily. The previous administrations had limited bio-mining capacity, but the current government has tripled it to 30–35 thousand metric tons per day through drone surveys, expanded machinery, and strict deadlines. She assured that the two major garbage mountains would be completely cleared by the end of 2026.

Active Youth Participation Encouraged
Approximately 30 young participants, including social media content creators and social activists, joined the dialogue. They urged for more initiatives ensuring Gen-Z participation in governance. CM Gupta highlighted the PM’s vision for 2047, aiming for India to become a developed nation, and said Delhi’s policies are aligned with this long-term goal. On animal welfare, she clarified that the government does not support any cruel practices, and efforts are underway for sterilization, vaccination, and revamping animal hospitals under Supreme Court guidelines.
A Day in the Life of CM Rekha Gupta
Sharing insights into her daily routine, CM Rekha Gupta said, “Becoming Chief Minister eliminates the distinction between day and night.” She starts her work at 5:30 AM and remains engaged in administrative, policy, and public outreach activities till late night. She reiterated that solutions to Delhi’s challenges lie in citizen participation. According to her, only when the government and citizens work together can Delhi become clean, safe, and truly developed.
