AAP FIRs in Gujarat rise sharply as party workers face alleged political targeting; Manoj Sorathia exposes BJP’s misuse of police against AAP activists.
In a press conference held in Surat, AAP Gujarat State General Secretary Manoj Sorathia raised serious concerns regarding the alleged targeting of AAP workers and leaders through police FIRs. Over the past three months, Sorathia claimed, AAP FIRs in Gujarat have surged, with 45 FIRs registered against the party’s workers and officials, raising questions about political misuse of law enforcement.
Allegations of Political Intimidation
Manoj Sorathia stated that while AAP workers face daily FIRs for raising public issues, leaders of other parties, including Congress, remain untouched. According to him, this systematic harassment is an attempt by the BJP to suppress voices advocating for public welfare. Sorathia highlighted that these FIRs are often minor disputes or fabricated incidents, yet they are converted into criminal cases, causing AAP workers to spend nights in police stations.
Targeting Youth and Public Activists
Sorathia further explained that many FIRs were registered against young activists and public leaders for questioning municipal authorities or exposing local issues. In Kutch, for example, despite evidence against illegal liquor dens, AAP worker Kainaat Ansari faced arrest, while the culprits remained unpunished. Such actions, Sorathia argued, reflect misuse of the police machinery to intimidate citizens instead of preventing crime.

Widespread Impact Across Gujarat
According to Sorathia, AAP FIRs in Gujarat have affected at least 160 party workers in districts including Panchmahal, Dahod, Godhra, Kutch, Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Valsad, Navsari, Ahmedabad, and Surat. Cases are often filed over trivial matters, such as minor road incidents, creating a climate of fear among party activists. Sorathia emphasized that this strategy by BJP leaders aims to suppress dissent and maintain power.
Call for Awareness and Justice
Sorathia urged the citizens of Gujarat to recognize the systematic political targeting and not tolerate intimidation. He emphasized that AAP FIRs in Gujarat are not just legal actions but tools to weaken democratic participation. AAP will continue to fight for the rights of citizens, standing firm against misuse of power. The party reaffirmed that its workers will not be deterred by FIRs, arrests, or harassment.
Focus on Accountability and Development
Manoj Sorathia concluded by stressing that BJP leaders should focus on genuine governance, sustainable development, and public welfare rather than using the police as a political tool. He appealed to the people of Gujarat to remain vigilant and support democratic accountability, ensuring that citizens’ voices are not silenced.
