Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has reached a landmark in sustainable transportation, officially crossing 3 million cumulative vehicle dispatches via the Indian Railways. This milestone solidifies the company’s position as a leader in “green logistics,” moving away from traditional road transport to more efficient, eco-friendly rail corridors.

Record-Breaking Pace: The journey from 2 million to 3 million rail dispatches was completed in just 21 months, marking the fastest million-unit addition in the company’s history.
Decade of Exponential Growth: Maruti Suzuki has successfully increased the share of rail in its outbound logistics from a mere 5% in FY 2014-15 to 26.5% in FY 2025-26.
Targeting 35% by 2031: Managing Director & CEO Hisashi Takeuchi announced an ambitious roadmap to raise the rail-based dispatch share to 35% by FY 2030-31.

₹1,372 Crore Investment: To support this transition, the automaker has committed over ₹1,372 crore ($13,720 million) toward dedicated infrastructure, including specialized automotive rakes and rail yards.
Industry-First In-Plant Sidings: Maruti is currently the only Indian carmaker with in-plant railway sidings at its Hansalpur (Gujarat) and Manesar (Haryana) facilities. A third siding is planned for the upcoming Kharkhoda plant.
Global Carbon Recognition: The Hansalpur project was recently registered as the world’s first Modal Shift Transportation Project under Verra’s Verified Carbon Standard, projected to save 170,000 tons of CO2 over a decade.
Massive Network Footprint: The rail network currently serves over 600 cities through 22 logistics hubs, transporting high-volume models like the Swift, Dzire, Brezza, and Grand Vitara.
Environmental & Social Benefits: The shift has already helped avoid approximately 16,800 metric tonnes of CO2 emissions annually while significantly easing road congestion and reducing fuel consumption.
PM GatiShakti Synergy: The success of these initiatives is a direct result of the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan, which has provided the framework for integrated, multimodal freight movement in India.
