Minister Anil Vij instructs officials to finish Shaheed Smarak construction by May 10
Haryana’s Energy, Transport, and Labour Minister Anil Vij, has announced his intention to request Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s time for the inauguration of the Shaheed Smarak in Ambala Cantonment. The memorial, dedicated to the country’s first war of independence in 1857, is expected to be completed and opened to the public by May 10, as per his directives to officials.
Speaking to journalists after inspecting the under-construction memorial on GT Road in Ambala, Minister Anil Vij instructed the XEN to ensure the operational readiness of the memorial tower’s lift within 10 days.
Minister Anil Vij highlighted that the Shaheed Smarak would be the largest monument in Asia, featuring extraordinary artistic depictions of key moments from the freedom struggle. The memorial will provide extensive information on lesser-known freedom fighters. It will include a grand lotus structure, a beautifully designed lake, two large lifts in the memorial tower, and an auditorium with a seating capacity of 2,000 people. A play is also in the works to narrate the heroic tales of the 1857 uprising.
During his visit, Principal Associate of Art Work Ritika and her team briefed Minister Anil Vij on significant battles fought in Haryana. He also explored the Zero Gallery, which illustrates locations where British forces committed atrocities, including sites where freedom fighters were hanged.
Minister Anil Vij emphasized that the entire memorial will recreate the historical landscape of 1857, showcasing Haryana’s role in the uprising and the sacrifices of revolutionaries like Rani Lakshmi Bai and Tatya Tope. He expressed confidence that the memorial would attract visitors from across the country, serving as an educational hub for the younger generation to learn about India’s freedom struggle.
Additionally, he announced that a daily light and sound show featuring high-quality documentary films would be held at the memorial, further enriching the visitor experience.
