Punjab Government Increases Compensation for Landowners Affected by 66KV Power Lines
In a major relief to landowners, the Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has significantly raised the compensation for those impacted by the installation of 66KV electric supply lines. Punjab Power Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO announced this decision in an official statement issued today.
Power Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO stated, “The compensation rate for landowners affected by the installation of electric supply lines has been more than doubled. This is a historic step aimed at providing fair and just compensation to those impacted.”
As per the revised policy, compensation for the tower base area will now be 200% of the land value. The tower base area refers to the space covered by the four legs of the tower at ground level, with an additional one-meter extension on all sides. Previously, compensation was limited to 85% of the area enclosed only by the tower legs.
Punjab Government Enhances Compensation for Right-of-Way (ROW) Corridor
Along with increasing compensation for the tower base area, the Punjab Government has also raised the compensation for landowners affected by the Right-of-Way (ROW) corridor. As per the revised policy, compensation for land within the ROW corridor—defined under Schedule VII of the Central Electricity Authority (Technical Standards for Construction of Electrical Plants and Electric Lines) Regulations, 2022—has been increased to 30% of the land value, doubling the previous rate of 15%.
The land value for compensation will be determined based on either the circle rate or the market rate, as assessed by the District Magistrate, District Collector, or Deputy Commissioner.
Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO emphasized, “This compensation accounts for any reduction in land value due to the presence of overhead transmission lines or underground cables within the ROW corridor. However, it is important to note that no construction activities of any kind will be allowed within the ROW of the transmission line.”
