Punjab’s Housing and Urban Development Minister Hardip Singh Mundian, stated that the 2025-26 budget presented by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema will significantly transform the state’s cities, ensuring world-class amenities for urban residents. With ₹5,983 crore allocated for urban development, the budget aims to enhance infrastructure and public services across Punjab.
Minister Hardip Singh highlighted that since 40% of Punjab’s population resides in urban areas, the government has prioritized substantial investments in these regions. He appreciated the major announcements benefiting key cities, especially Ludhiana, and noted that 50 kilometers of international-standard roads will be developed in Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Amritsar, and SAS Nagar over the next year. Additionally, ₹225 crore from the will be used to upgrade road infrastructure and ensure cleanliness, water supply, sewage systems, roads, and street lighting across 166 towns and cities.
The budget also earmarks ₹300 crore for the Punjab Municipal Services Improvement Project (PMSIP) to strengthen urban governance, financial management, and water services in Ludhiana. To improve sustainable and accessible urban mobility, 367 E-buses will be procured for Ludhiana, along with the development of a Civil Bus Depot infrastructure in the city.
Supporting industrial and small business growth, the budget provides ₹120 crore under the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance Scheme to facilitate market access, financial support, and technology adoption for small enterprises. It also includes the establishment of a Technology Extension Centre in key industrial hubs and a ₹10 crore allocation for upgrading the R&D Centre and the Institute of Auto Parts and Hand Tools Technology (IAHT) in Ludhiana.
