Minister Hardip Singh : The State Government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has increased the honorarium of village chowkidars, reaffirming its commitment to the welfare of all sections of society. This Cabinet-approved decision will benefit 9,974 chowkidars across the state, providing them with an additional annual benefit of ₹3 crore.
Punjab Revenue and Rehabilitation Minister Hardip Singh Mundian emphasized that the government is fulfilling its promises to every section of the state. As part of this significant Cabinet decision, the monthly honorarium for village chowkidars has been raised from ₹1,250 to ₹1,500. The previous honorarium of ₹1,250 had remained unchanged since 2017, and this increase comes after eight years.
Minister Hardip Singh highlighted that this long-pending demand of chowkidar organizations has now been approved, ensuring better working conditions for rural watchmen. He further stated that chowkidars not only provide security but also play a crucial role in village development, acting as a vital link between the village panchayat and numberdars.
Following the Cabinet’s approval, a formal notification will be issued soon to implement this decision.
