Minister Harpal Singh Cheema : Cabinet Sub-Committee pledges prompt resolution of valid demands in discussions with various unions.
The Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, is steadfast in its commitment to promoting the Punjabi language across the state and continues to take proactive measures for its advancement. This was affirmed by Punjab’s Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, during a meeting with the Kendri Punjabi Lekhak Sabha (Sekhon) at his office today.
Minister Harpal Singh Cheema highlighted that the state government is actively collaborating with literary organizations to support Punjabi language, culture, literature, and art. He noted that, under the Punjab Arts Council, a series of ‘Punjab Nav Sirjana’ events are being organized in various regions to celebrate and promote literature, art, and cultural heritage.
Addressing the concerns raised by the Writers’ Sabha, the Finance Minister Harpal Singh assured that the government is already implementing necessary steps to enforce the use of Punjabi. He directed the Director of the Language Department to ensure strict implementation of the Language Act and take action against any department or employee violating it. He reaffirmed the government’s continuous efforts to establish Punjabi as the primary language of communication and mandate the installation of signboards in Punjabi.
Additionally, the Cabinet Sub-Committee, comprising Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema and NRI Affairs Minister S. Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, engaged in discussions with representatives from the Mur Bahal Kacche Adhyapak Union, Sanyukat Atma Punjab Association (SAPA), and Zameen Prapti Sangharsh Committee. The committee assured these organizations that the government acknowledges their demands with a positive approach and is committed to addressing their legitimate concerns promptly.
Among those present at the meeting were MLA Jaswant Singh Gajjanmajra, Additional Chief Secretary (Development) Anurag Verma, Director of the Language Department Jaswant Singh Zafar, and representatives from various organizations.
