Indore has retained its title as India’s cleanest city for the seventh consecutive year, marking a significant achievement in sanitation. Members of the 16th Finance Commission visited the city to observe the key initiatives that have contributed to its consistent top ranking in cleanliness.
As part of their visit, the delegation inspected Asia’s largest Gobar-Dhan Bio-CNG Plant at Devguradia Trenching Ground. They also explored Indore’s sanitation success while sitting at Pari Park, a green space developed on the trenching ground.
Additionally, they reviewed several waste management projects, including the Material Recovery Facility Center for dry waste disposal, the Bio-remediation of 1.5 million metric tons of old waste, the City Forest spanning 100 acres with fruit-bearing and oxygen-producing trees, and Construction and Demolition Waste Processing Plants.
The Finance Commission members commended Indore’s sanitation efforts. Mayor Shri Pushyamitra Bhargava provided insights into the measures taken to maintain the city’s cleanliness. Municipal Commissioner Shri Shivam Verma highlighted details of the Gobar-Dhan Bio-CNG Plant, emphasizing that it is the largest in Asia, with a current processing capacity of 550 tons per day (TPD), which is set to increase to 800 TPD following an approved expansion.
Shri Verma also outlined Indore’s plans to maximize waste utilization, including fuel briquettes and liquid fertilizers, showcasing the city’s commitment not only to cleanliness but also to environmental sustainability.
The visit was attended by Urban Development & Housing Minister Shri Kailash Vijayvargiya, along with the Finance Commission delegation, comprising Smt Annie George Mathew, Dr. Manoj Panda, Dr. Soumya Kanti Ghosh, and Secretary Shri Ritvik Pandey. Other key officials present included Divisional Commissioner Shri Deepak Singh, Collector Ashish Singh, and Municipal Commissioner Shri Shivam Verma.
