NEET Row: The CBI has been requested by the Ministry of Education to carry out a thorough probe into the whole range of purported anomalies.
On Sunday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) assumed responsibility for the investigation into the purported anomalies in the NEET-UG test and sent teams to investigate in multiple states. Five persons were detained by the Bihar Police’s Economic Offenses Unit in connection with the NEET paper leak investigation. In the state, 18 persons have been taken into custody thus far.
After discovering “malpractices,” the National Testing Agency (NTA), which has been under fire for canceling and rescheduling multiple competitive tests, has excluded 17 candidates from exam centers in Bihar. Since the controversy began, 110 pupils have so far been subjected to similar treatment.

1. Just 813 of the 1,563 students who were required to retake the NEET exam due to the issue surrounding grace marks showed up for the exam on Sunday. The NTA gave these applicants grace marks to make up for the time they lost at six centers when the exam was delayed starting on May 5. There were claims that it caused the marks to be inflated and let six candidates from the same Haryana center receive perfect scores of 720. In the nation, an astounding 67 candidates passed the NEET-UG exam with perfect scores.
2. In the NEET-UG case, the CBI filed a formal complaint under sections 420 (cheating) and 20-B (criminal conspiracy). On Sunday, the governments of Bihar and Gujarat also released notices to the Central Bureau of Investigation regarding NEET-UG paper leak cases that their police had filed.
3. On Sunday night, the Patna police nabbed five individuals from Deoghar, Jharkhand. The accused are all locals of Nalanda. Baldev Kumar, Mukesh Kumar, Panku Kumar, Rajeev Kumar, and Paramjeet Singh are the ones in question.
4. A day before the exam, Baldev Kumar, a member of the infamous Sanjeev Kumar alias Lutan Mukhiya gang, is believed to have received the NEET-UG solved answer sheet in PDF format on his phone, according to the statement. According to the police statement, the leaked answer sheet originated with the Mukhiya gang members, who are suspected of masterminding several interstate paper leaks.
5. Answer sheets were printed by Baldev and his colleagues for the students who had convened on May 4 at a safe house in Ram Krishna Nagar, Patna. It was Nitish Kumar and Amit Anand who had taken the students to the safe home after their earlier arrest.
6. The Mukhiya gang got the NEET-UG question paper from a private school in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, according to the police statement.
7. A partially burned question paper was discovered by the investigators in the Patna safe house. They have verified the source of the leak by comparing the document to the National Testing Agency’s (NTA) reference question paper.
8. 63 Bihar students were prohibited by the National Testing Agency for using unethical tactics during the NEET exam. It denied admission to thirty students from Godhara, Gujarat, on Saturday. Currently, 110 have been debarred after 17 more were removed. “Seventeen candidates who presented from Bihar centers were disqualified based on the feedback that was received. With this, 110 candidates have been disqualified from the exam overall this year, according to an NTA official.
9. The CBI has been requested by the Ministry of Education to carry out a thorough inquiry into the whole range of suspected irregularities, which include conspiracy, cheating, impersonation, violation of trust, and evidence destruction by candidates, institutions, and intermediaries. They will also look into the potential involvement of government employees.
10.Meanwhile, a high-level panel appointed by the central government to assess the National Testing Agency’s operations and make recommendations for exam improvements will convene on Monday. K Radhakrishnan, the previous head of ISRO, is in charge of it.
