Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Energy Minister Ashish Sood inaugurated the ambitious Old Delhi Underground Wiring Project, a ₹159.47 crore initiative aimed at improving the city’s infrastructure and safety.
Old Delhi to be Free from Hanging Wires
The newly launched Old Delhi Underground Wiring Project will cover 26 lanes and streets, including Kinari Bazaar, Dharmapura, Nai Sadak, and Kucha Mahajani. All overhead electric and communication wires will be shifted underground, eliminating the visual clutter and potential hazards caused by dangling cables.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasized the significance of the project, stating, “For decades, residents of Old Delhi have faced challenges due to exposed wires. With this project, we aim to not only beautify the city but also enhance safety and reduce the risk of electrical accidents.”

Project Budget and Timeline
The Delhi government has sanctioned a total budget of ₹159.47 crore for the Old Delhi Underground Wiring Project.
