PM Modi attends NDA Parliamentary Party’s ‘Mangal Milan’ meeting in Parliament as allies discuss key issues amid the ongoing Monsoon Session.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the NDA Parliamentary Party’s weekly ‘Mangal Milan’ meeting at Parliament on Tuesday, with several senior Union ministers and leaders of the ruling alliance joining the gathering.
The meeting was held at the GMC Balayogi Auditorium in the Parliament Library Building. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and BJP National President Nitin Nabin were among the prominent leaders present at the meeting.
PM Modi, Top NDA Leaders Attend Meeting
The weekly gathering brought together NDA lawmakers at a time when Parliament is witnessing intense political activity during the ongoing Monsoon Session.
The meeting provided an opportunity for leaders of the ruling alliance to discuss key political and governance-related issues and coordinate their approach during the session.
Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI) MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay also reached the Parliament Library Building to participate in the meeting.
Before entering the meeting, Bandyopadhyay said that he was attending the NDA Parliamentary Party meeting for the first time and described himself as one of the country’s senior parliamentarians. He also maintained that NCPI remained united.
NCPI Leaders’ Earlier Absence Sparked Speculation
The participation of NCPI leaders comes against the backdrop of questions surrounding the party’s engagement with the NDA.
Three NCPI MPs from the minority community — Abu Taher Khan, Khalilur Rahman and Yusuf Pathan — had not attended the previous ‘Mangal Milan’ meeting.
The party had rejected speculation about internal differences. However, leaders of the Trinamool Congress had claimed that the three MPs were reluctant to associate themselves with the BJP-led NDA.
NCPI had emerged after 20 rebel Trinamool Congress MPs left the party following its defeat in the Assembly elections and announced their association with the new political formation. The party subsequently declared its support for the NDA.
Kiren Rijiju Addresses NDA Lawmakers
The meeting concluded with Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju addressing NDA MPs in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Union Minister for Panchayati Raj, Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Rajiv Ranjan Singh also spoke to the gathering.
Goyal highlighted India’s recent Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) and discussed their broader economic and strategic significance.
Rajiv Ranjan Singh focused on India’s fisheries sector, including its recent growth, government initiatives and the roadmap for further development.
NDA Meeting Takes Place Amid Opposition Protests
The latest NDA ‘Mangal Milan’ meeting comes as Parliament’s Monsoon Session continues amid heated political exchanges between the government and the Opposition.
Several contentious issues are being raised during the session, including exam reforms, alleged police action against students and the controversy surrounding donations for the Ram Mandir.
The Opposition has been pressing the government on these issues, while the ruling alliance has continued to coordinate its strategy for the ongoing parliamentary proceedings.
The weekly NDA meeting therefore assumes significance as the government and its allies seek to maintain coordination while navigating a politically charged Monsoon Session.
Focus on Government Agenda and Alliance Coordination
The presence of Prime Minister Modi and senior Union ministers at the meeting underlined the importance of regular coordination among NDA lawmakers.
With Parliament witnessing protests and political confrontation over multiple issues, the ‘Mangal Milan’ gathering serves as an important platform for the alliance to communicate its priorities and discuss the government’s legislative and policy agenda.
As the Monsoon Session progresses, further debates are expected on examination reforms, student-related concerns, economic issues and other matters raised by the Opposition.
