During the current fiscal year, the Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, plans to give pregnant and nursing mothers financial benefits worth Rs. 60 crore for their nutrition and health. Dr. Baljit Kaur, the Minister of Social Security, Women, and Child Development, unveiled the initiative today with the goal of enhancing social security and the welfare of women and children.
The Cabinet Minister went on to provide more information, saying that the government is dedicated to aggressively promoting the health and nutrition of expectant and nursing mothers. She emphasized that 96044 qualified women received financial help of Rs. 42 crore during the previous fiscal year. Furthermore, 42592 mothers have received financial support of about Rs. 25.55 crore upon the birth of a second girl child.
Women who are 19 years of age or older will receive financial support of Rs. 5000 for the birth of their first kid (Rs. 3000 + Rs. 2000) and Rs. 6000 for the birth of a second girl child, Dr. Baljit Kaur stressed. These monies, which are intended to improve mothers’ pre- and postpartum health, will be given subject to the fulfillment of certain conditions under the Prime Minister Matru Vandana Yojana. The goal of this program is to cease gender selection prior to birth and address the decreasing sex ratio at birth.
The Minister further emphasized that Anganwadi personnel at every Anganwadi center in the state are completing financial assistance application forms. She mentioned that eligible beneficiaries’ bank or post office accounts connected to Aadhaar are directly credited with financial aid disbursements.
Dr. Kaur pleaded with department representatives to make sure the program reaches as many people as possible and to give eligible recipients more rewards. Additionally, she advised recipients to register their applications online at https://pmmvy.nic.in/, the official portal.
She advised beneficiaries to get in touch with their local Anganwadi Centers/Offices, Child Development Project Officers, and District Program Officers for more information.
