Pro-Palestine Protest in Pune’s Karvenagar Leads to Confrontation with Right-Wing Activists
Pune, May 9, 2025 — A peaceful Pro-Palestine Protest organized by supporters in the Karvenagar area of Pune took a dramatic turn on Wednesday evening after a confrontation broke out between demonstrators and right-wing activists, prompting police intervention and legal action.
The Pro-Palestine Protest, staged outside a popular pizza outlet, was led by a group of young citizens, including students, who gathered to express solidarity with Palestinians amid the ongoing violence in Gaza. Protesters held placards condemning what they described as genocide and called for a boycott of establishments perceived to support the Israeli government.

Eyewitnesses reported that the situation escalated when members of a local right-wing group confronted the protesters, objecting to their slogans and placards. The clash turned physical, leading to chaos in the otherwise quiet neighborhood.
Police from the Warje station arrived at the scene shortly after tensions flared. Both groups have since lodged formal complaints, and authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
“We are reviewing footage and taking statements from both parties,” said a police official from Warje. “The situation is under control, but we are taking the matter seriously.”
This Pro-Palestine Protest comes amid growing demonstrations across India in response to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Cities including Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru have seen similar rallies, with citizens calling for an end to the violence and urging the Indian government to take a clearer stance on the issue.
Residents of Karvenagar expressed concern over the disruption, though many acknowledged the importance of the right to protest. “It’s unfortunate that such incidents turn violent,” said a local shopkeeper. “People should be able to express themselves without fear.”
No arrests have been made as of now, but further legal action is expected depending on the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
