The Punjab government has completed the construction of 892 modern Punjab Anganwadi Centres as part of its initiative to strengthen early childhood care and education across the state. Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur announced that the remaining 132 centers out of the targeted 1,024 are in the final stage of construction and will soon be opened for children.
The newly developed centers are designed to provide safe, child-friendly, and enriching learning environments with facilities focused on children’s overall development.
Government Targets 1,024 New Anganwadi Centres Across Punjab
Dr. Baljit Kaur said the state government has set a target of establishing 1,024 new Punjab Anganwadi centers to ensure that children, especially from rural and underprivileged backgrounds, receive quality early childhood education and care.
She highlighted that every child deserves equal opportunities for learning, growth, and development regardless of their economic background. The Punjab Anganwadi Centres will create spaces where children can learn through play-based activities while receiving proper care and support.

Focus on Nutrition, Health and Child Development
The minister said these centers are not only infrastructure projects but also important platforms for improving children’s health, nutrition, and cognitive development. She added that the centers will provide children with safe environments where they can explore their abilities and build a strong foundation for their future.
₹10 Lakh Allocated Under Mission Saksham for Each Centre
According to Dr. Baljit Kaur, each Punjab Anganwadi center is being developed according to prescribed quality standards with a focus on safety, inclusivity, and child-friendly infrastructure. Under Mission Saksham, ₹10 lakh has been allocated for every center to provide essential facilities.
These facilities include proper seating arrangements, safe drinking water, modern sanitation systems, and interactive learning spaces to improve the overall experience for children.

Dr. Baljit Kaur reiterated that the government remains committed to strengthening early childhood care and education in Punjab.
