Officials noted that the move is particularly important for strengthening the drainage system before the monsoon rains, helping to prevent waterlogging in both urban and rural areas. Faster clearance of tenders is expected to ensure timely completion of cleaning and maintenance work.
Additional Powers Granted to District Commissioners
The Punjab Cabinet has also empowered District Commissioners (DCs) to initiate de-silting operations immediately whenever required, without waiting for prolonged administrative approvals. This decision is expected to strengthen local-level decision-making and improve responsiveness in urgent situations.
According to officials, this reform will help address drainage and sanitation issues more effectively and ensure quicker resolution of waterlogging-related problems across districts.
Government’s Focus on Governance and Development
The state government, led by Bhagwant Mann, has emphasized that these reforms are part of its broader agenda to improve governance, enhance public service delivery, and accelerate development projects.
The administration claims it is continuously working on improving infrastructure, creating employment opportunities, and strengthening public welfare systems across Punjab.
