Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann demands live telecast of January 15 Akal Takht meeting for full transparency on Golak accounts and public accountability.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has publicly requested the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gandgej, to broadcast the upcoming January 15 meeting live. The CM Bhagwant Mann emphasized that the Sikh congregation (Sangat) seeks full transparency regarding the Golak (charitable fund) accounts. Mann stated that he has been summoned by the Jathedar to provide clarification on statements concerning contributions to the Golak and assured that he will appear with all supporting evidence.
Sharing his request via his official social media handles, CM Bhagwant Mann highlighted that he has received messages from devotees worldwide expressing their desire to witness the proceedings live. “The congregation wants to stay informed about every aspect of the Golak and its management,” he said. Mann further urged that the entire process be broadcast transparently so that all devotees can observe every step.
He added that he will personally attend the meeting at Sri Akal Takht Sahib with all relevant documents and proofs. Mann stressed that when the discussion touches upon Golak records, the procedure should be visible to all through live coverage across channels.

Jathedar Seeks Clarification
The controversy arose after the Jathedar summoned CM Bhagwant Mann on January 15 to clarify allegations regarding statements in which he reportedly mentioned that contributions were not being made to the Golak. Some of these remarks were also circulated through video clips, prompting the request for an official explanation.
Traditionally, Meetings Are Private
Historically, explanations and disciplinary proceedings at Sri Akal Takht Sahib have been conducted behind closed doors. No person’s statements or clarifications have ever been broadcast live. CM Bhagwant Mann ’s demand for live telecast has therefore sparked significant discussions across religious and political circles, highlighting the increasing call for transparency in the management of charitable funds within the Sikh community.
This move by the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann reflects a growing demand among the public and the Sangat for accountability and transparency in religious and administrative matters at the highest levels of Sikh religious institutions.
