Punjab Government approves laptops, conveyance and infrastructure allowances for food supply inspectors to improve efficiency, transparency and field operations.
The Punjab government has approved a set of measures aimed at improving the efficiency and working conditions of food supply inspectors. Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak has given in-principle approval for procuring laptops for officers in the Inspector cadre.
The proposed laptops are expected to help officials handle departmental work more efficiently while improving accuracy, transparency and coordination. The initiative is particularly relevant to field operations, where inspectors regularly interact with farmers, arhtiyas and other stakeholders during procurement activities.
Inspectors to Get Support for Mandi Visits
The minister has also approved a conveyance allowance for inspectors to make their field visits more convenient. Officials frequently visit mandis to assess arrangements and monitor procurement-related activities, especially during peak procurement seasons.
The allowance is intended to support these regular visits and enable inspectors to carry out their responsibilities more effectively at the ground level.

Infrastructure Allowance Approved
Along with the laptop and conveyance proposals, the government has approved an infrastructure allowance for inspectors. The financial support is aimed at helping officials improve their office facilities and arrange better furniture and other basic infrastructure.
According to the government, strengthening workplace resources can help officials perform their administrative responsibilities in a more organised manner.
Punjab Minister Stresses Responsibility in Foodgrain Distribution
During his interaction with the Inspector Union, Kataruchak underlined the importance of ensuring that foodgrains meant for needy beneficiaries reach them without any disruption.
He instructed inspectors to remain vigilant while performing their duties and stressed that negligence in ensuring the delivery of foodgrains to eligible beneficiaries would not be accepted.
The minister’s direction highlights the importance of accountability in the department, particularly in activities linked to procurement and the distribution of foodgrains.
Senior Officials Attend the Meeting
The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary Rahul Tewari, Director Varinder Kumar Sharma and Additional Managing Director of PUNGRAIN Kamal Kumar Garg, along with other senior officials of the department.
The government’s latest decisions are focused on providing inspectors with better technological tools, mobility support and improved workplace infrastructure. The measures are expected to strengthen field-level monitoring and make departmental operations more efficient and transparent.
The proposals also underline the government’s emphasis on ensuring effective procurement management and the proper delivery of foodgrains to their intended beneficiaries.
