Punjab is set to emerge as a global leader in seed production as the state government explores a strategic agricultural partnership with Israel. The discussions took place during a high-level meeting between Punjab’s Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister, Gurmeet Singh Khudian, and Fares Saeb, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Israel, held at Punjab Bhawan on Monday.
The proposed collaboration aims to focus on four major areas: exporting food grain seeds from Punjab to Israel, facilitating academic exchanges between Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, and Israeli institutions, exchanging citrus stocks, and implementing advanced water-management technologies.
Minister Khudian highlighted the introduction of Israel’s precision ‘N-Drip’ irrigation system, which can save up to 70% of water and significantly reduce energy usage. The partnership will also explore the use of treated sewage and village pond water for irrigation, following Israel’s model where 95% of treated wastewater is reused in agriculture.

“This collaboration marks a visionary step for Punjab’s farming community. By combining Israeli innovation with Punjab’s agricultural strength, we aim to ensure water security, enhance farmer profitability, and position the state as a global hub for seed production and sustainable agricultural practices,” said Minister Khudian.
Fares Saeb expressed strong interest in importing food grain seeds from Punjab and welcomed a high-level delegation from the state to deepen cooperation in agricultural research, development, and water reuse technologies. He also announced improved connectivity with a new direct flight from Delhi to Israel starting January 2026, reducing travel time to approximately six hours.
This strategic partnership is expected to bolster Punjab’s global agricultural footprint while introducing innovative, sustainable practices for farmers across the state.
