Punjab Police : In a significant development, as part of the ongoing effort to ensure Punjab’s safety and security under the direction of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Anti Gangster Task Force (AGTF) of Punjab Police has arrested four members of the Gurpreet Sekhon gang for their involvement in the high-profile murder of Overseer Singh, also known as Satinder Singh or Satti. A .32 bore pistol and six cartridges were recovered from their possession, according to Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, on Saturday.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi from village Selbrah, Bathinda; Lovejeet Sharma alias Lavi from village Bhai Rupa, Bathinda; Vinod Kumar alias Skill Sharma from Bhai Rupa, Bathinda; and Gagandeep Singh from Bhagta Bhaika, Bathinda. In addition to the weapon, the police have also seized their white Hyundai Verna car with registration number PB 03 BH 7724.
Reports indicate that Overseer Singh, a known history-sheeter from Bhai Rupa, Bathinda, was shot dead at his village by his neighbor and associates due to personal enmity at around 4 a.m. on February 5. He was rushed to the civil hospital in Bathinda but was declared dead on arrival.
DGP Gaurav Yadav mentioned that the preliminary investigation revealed the arrested individuals had a criminal background, with multiple cases against them, including murder, attempted murder, and violations of the Arms Act.
Further investigations are underway to identify additional suspects and dismantle the criminal networks, with more arrests expected, he added.
Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) of AGTF, Promod Ban, stated that following the murder, the AGTF Punjab launched an operation to track down the accused. Gurpreet Singh and Vinod Kumar were arrested in Dhanaula, Barnala, while Gagandeep Singh and Lovejeet Singh were captured near TPT College in Rampura Phul, Bathinda.
A case (FIR No. 11 dated 05.02.25) has been filed under sections 125 and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act at the Phul Police Station in Bathinda.
