Punjab Police : DGP Gaurav Yadav Instructs CPs/SSPs to Take Strict Action Against Corrupt Police Officials
In line with the Punjab Government’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and integrity in public service, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s administration has taken strict action against corruption within the police force. Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, announced on Wednesday that Commissioners of Police (CPs) and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) across all districts have dismissed 52 police personnel for their involvement in corrupt practices, criminal activities, or prolonged absenteeism.
The dismissed officials include one Inspector, five Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs), four Head Constables (HCs), and 42 Constables from various districts. Addressing a press conference at Punjab Police Headquarters, DGP Gaurav Yadav stated that CPs/SSPs are actively identifying officers facing serious allegations, wanted in FIRs, or involved in corruption. Each case is being thoroughly examined, and due legal procedures are followed before action is taken.
Recently, a Station House Officer (SHO) from Sadiq and two constables in Faridkot district were arrested for extorting money, further reinforcing Punjab Police’s ‘Zero Tolerance Against Corruption’ policy. DGP Yadav assured that strict legal action will be taken against any officers found guilty of corruption, emphasizing that such misconduct will not be tolerated.
Punjab Police to Launch E-FIR Facility
DGP Yadav also announced that Punjab Police will introduce an e-FIR facility for motor vehicle theft, allowing citizens to file FIRs online or through SAANJH Kendras. To support this initiative, an e-Police Station is being established at the state level, and the government will seek approval from the Hon’ble High Court to set up E-Courts in each district.
This digital initiative aims to reduce direct interaction between citizens and police personnel while improving service efficiency. Currently, Punjab Police provides 43 online services under the SAANJH project.
Internal Police Reforms Project
In collaboration with the Indian Police Foundation, Punjab Police has launched an internal reforms project, making Punjab the first state in the country to do so. Initially implemented in SAS Nagar and Rupnagar, the project is now being extended to Fatehgarh Sahib and Khanna. The initiative focuses on improving complaint registration, police response, behavior, public engagement, and minimizing harassment.
