As part of its ongoing crackdown on the drug mafia, Punjab Police, with the support of the local administration, demolished the illegally constructed houses of two drug peddlers in Patiala and Rupnagar on Thursday. This action is a key step in the state government’s intensified War Against Drugs, launched under the directives of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
In Patiala, police teams, led by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr. Nanak Singh, took strict action against a known drug smuggler, Rinky, a resident of Rodi Kut Mohalla. Rinky has a history of drug-related offenses, with at least 10 FIRs registered under the NDPS Act between 2016 and 2024. The illegal property was demolished following orders from the district administration. SSP Dr. Nanak Singh emphasized that Patiala Police is committed to taking strong action against drug traffickers and warned that similar measures will continue against repeat offenders.
Likewise, in Rupnagar, the district police and administration demolished the illegally built house of drug smugglers Salim Mohammad and his wife, Asha. Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain and SSP Rupnagar Gulneet Singh Khurana stated that, following CM Bhagwant Singh Mann’s directives, a special campaign against drug smugglers was launched in the district.
Providing further details, SSP Khurana revealed that the couple, residing in Sadabrat village, were habitual drug peddlers with three criminal cases each under the NDPS Act. Investigations confirmed their involvement in drug trafficking, with recoveries of ganja and narcotic powder from them. He added that the couple had used drug money to construct their illegal house, which was demolished by the Municipal Council, Rupnagar, with police assistance.
