Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Saturday announced the commencement of Sikh Martyrdom Week, starting from 06 Poh, to honor the supreme sacrifices of Guru Gobind Singh Ji and his family.
In a post on X, CM Mann highlighted the historic event when Guru Gobind Singh Ji, along with his family, departed from Sri Anandgarh Sahib. He described the occasion as a profound symbol of courage, selflessness, and inspiration for humanity. “Today marks the beginning of Martyrdom Week in Sikh history. On this day, the tenth Guru, Guru Gobind Singh Ji, along with his family, left the fort of Sri Anandgarh Sahib despite assurances from the Mughal and hill army commanders. Guru Sahib initially hesitated but eventually, under the insistence of the Singhs, departed with his family, exemplifying unmatched bravery,” CM Mann said.

The announcement also resonates with tributes from leaders across India. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai paid homage to Sahibzada Zorawar Singh and Sahibzada Fateh Singh, the young sons of Guru Gobind Singh Ji. “We remember the martyrdom of the sons of the tenth Guru, who sacrificed their lives at the ages of nine and six to uphold their faith. Their courage remains a beacon of righteousness, and their heroic story continues to inspire generations. In 2022, Prime Minister Modi declared December 26 as Veer Bal Diwas to honor their sacrifice,” he stated.
