Rajasthan Assembly session turns chaotic over road construction. Congress raises objection to Diya Kumari’s figures as BJP defends government’s road development achievements.
The Rajasthan Legislative Assembly witnessed a heated exchange during the Question Hour as road construction promises came under scrutiny. The opposition and ruling party members clashed over discrepancies in road development, leading to a tense and chaotic atmosphere in the House.
During the session, Peepalda MLA Chetan Patel Kolana questioned the non-patched and missing link roads in his constituency and highlighted the non-implementation of budgeted road projects. He sought a detailed response from PWD Minister and Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari.
As Diya Kumari began presenting comparative figures of the current government versus the previous Congress regime, Congress legislators raised objections, escalating the tension in the House. The Deputy CM responded, stating that she only wanted to present the facts, but the opposition was objecting without listening. In her rebuttal, Diya Kumari clarified, “I did not say how much work you did or didn’t do. Why show so much aggression? You don’t even know what I am going to say.”
During the uproar, BJP ministers, including Avinash Gehlot, also stood from their seats to support the Deputy CM. Gehlot alleged that during the Congress rule, even one kilometer of road was not sanctioned despite BJP MLAs’ recommendations.
Diya Kumari further stated that the previous Congress government had constructed approximately 13,000 kilometers of new roads in five years, whereas the current government completed 16,864 kilometers of roads in just two years. She added that while 1,104 villages were connected under Congress, the present government has connected 1,700 villages to the road network in two years.
Additionally, Diya Kumari noted that Congress spent ₹12,300 crore on road renovation over five years, while the current government spent ₹8,450 crore in just two years. The uproar temporarily disrupted the proceedings, but the House resumed Question Hour after tensions eased.
This session highlighted the ongoing debate over infrastructure development and governance accountability, with both parties presenting contrasting narratives on road construction achievements in Rajasthan.’
