Rajasthan government withdraws order to observe Babri Masjid demolition anniversary as ‘Shaurya Diwas’ in schools after CM Bhajan Lal Sharma’s intervention due to upcoming exams.
The Rajasthan government has decided to withdraw its earlier directive to commemorate the Babri Masjid demolition anniversary on December 6 as ‘Shaurya Diwas’ in state-run schools. The order was revoked following the intervention of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, citing the upcoming half-yearly exams as the primary reason.
The initial decision had created a stir across the state, as government schools were expected to mark December 6 as a day of valor. However, just a few hours after the announcement, the Education Department reversed its order, confirming that the exams would commence soon, making the observance impractical.
Half-Yearly Exams at the Center of the Controversy
Questions arose about whether Education Minister Madan Dilawar was aware of the upcoming exams when the order was issued. Reports suggest that CM Bhajan Lal Sharma expressed displeasure over the unilateral decision. On Sunday morning, November 30, following widespread media coverage, the Chief Minister directed the Education Minister to retract the order, effectively resolving the issue before it escalated further.

BJP Leadership Expressed Disagreement
It is also reported that senior leaders of the BJP, based in Delhi, raised objections to the move, concerned that the order could create negative publicity for the party and the government. The directive had been issued late at night by Education Minister Madan Dilawar without prior consultation with the CM. The swift reversal helped restore calm among government officials and party members.
The incident highlights the delicate balance between political decisions and administrative planning, especially when public exams and sensitive historical events intersect. Rajasthan’s schools will now proceed without marking the Babri Masjid anniversary, focusing instead on the academic calendar.
