Defence Minister Rajnath Singh met South Korean Defence Minister in Seoul, strengthening defence ties with agreements on cyber security and UN peace missions.

India and South Korea have taken a significant step forward in strengthening their defence partnership as Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held a high-level bilateral meeting with his South Korean counterpart Ahn Gyu Back in Seoul. The meeting focused on expanding cooperation in defence, cybersecurity, and strategic collaboration.

Focus on Defence and Strategic Cooperation

During the discussions, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to regional peace, stability, and a rules-based international order. In a rapidly evolving global security environment, India and South Korea emphasized the need to deepen mutual cooperation and enhance strategic trust.

The leaders also reviewed ongoing defence engagements and explored new opportunities in defence technology, joint training, and capacity building.

Key Agreements Signed

A number of important Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were exchanged during the meeting. These include enhanced cooperation in defence cyber security, academic collaboration between the National Defence College of India and the Korea National Defence University, and joint efforts in United Nations peacekeeping operations.

These agreements are expected to add new momentum to bilateral defence ties and open fresh avenues for institutional and operational cooperation.

Strengthening Strategic Partnership

Rajnath Singh stated that the meeting would play a crucial role in giving new direction to the India–South Korea special strategic partnership. Both countries agreed to explore emerging areas of collaboration, including advanced defence technologies and innovation-driven partnerships.
