Ranji Trophy 2024

Ranji Trophy 2024: Mumbai heaped Tamil Nadu as they scored 378 in the first innings to lead by 232 runs.

Mumbai, the most successful team in Ranji Trophy history with 41 wins, has qualified for the final of the 2023/24 season. Ajinkya Rahane’s team defeated Tamil Nadu by an innings and 70 runs in the second semi-final at the Bandra Kurla Complex.
Mumbai reached the Ranji Trophy final for the 47th time, cementing their dominance in India’s biggest domestic championship.

Ranji Trophy 2024: Tamil Nadu decided to take the lead and were bowled out for 146 in the first innings. Barring Vijay Shankar’s 44 runs and Washington Sundar’s 43 runs, no batsman could match Mumbai’s clean bowling attack led by Shardul Thakur and Tushar Deshpande. They took 2 and 3 wickets respectively.

In reply, Mumbai scored 378 runs in the first innings to lead by 232 runs, leaving Tamil Nadu in agony. Despite early disappointments like the departure of Prithvi Shah and Bhupan Lalwani, Mushir Khan (55) and Hardik Tamor (35) have played important roles in the team.

However, Shardul Thakur’s brilliant century put Mumbai in a better position and earned him the man of the match award. Mumbai scored 378 thanks to Dhanush Kotian’s tough unbeaten 89 runs. Tamil Nadu captain Sai Kishore took 6 wickets.

Ranji Trophy 2024: Tamil Nadu’s second innings followed a similar pattern as they were bowled out for 162, well below Mumbai’s impressive total. This time, the spin combo of Shams Mulani and Tanush Kotian took the most wickets with 6 wickets between them. Only 70 Baba Indrajit rebels expressed any opposition to Tamil Nadu.

With this decisive win, Mumbai qualified for the final of the 47th Ranji Trophy. They will play the winner of the other semi-final between Vidarbha and Madhya Pradesh and are aiming for a total of 41 titles.
