Ravjot Singh backed the Punjab Assembly motion against E20 petrol and demanded that consumers have the option to choose regular petrol.
Punjab Cabinet Minister Ravjot Singh supported the motion brought in the Punjab Assembly against E20 petrol, raising concerns over ethanol’s lower energy capacity and its possible impact on older vehicles.
Concerns Over Ethanol’s Energy Capacity
Ravjot Singh said ethanol has lower energy capacity compared with conventional petrol. According to him, achieving the same energy output may require greater consumption of ethanol-blended fuel.
He stressed the need for consumers to have clear information about the impact of E20 fuel on vehicle performance, fuel consumption and maintenance.

Concerns Over Older Vehicles
The Punjab minister claimed that around 30 crore vehicles manufactured before April 2023 could face significant engine-related problems due to E20 fuel.
He said the concerns of owners of older vehicles should be considered while implementing fuel policies, particularly because a large number of such vehicles are still in use.
Demand for Choice Between E20 and Regular Petrol
Ravjot Singh demanded that consumers should have the option to choose between E20 petrol and regular petrol. He said vehicle owners should be able to select fuel based on their vehicle’s compatibility and requirements.
The minister supported the Punjab Assembly motion against E20 and called for greater consideration of consumer interests, vehicle compatibility and the economic impact of the fuel policy.
