Sanjay Singh demands time-bound investigation into Palam fire tragedy, calls for action against negligent officials and resignation of Delhi minister.
AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh raised the issue of the tragic Palam fire in the Upper House on Tuesday, calling for a time-bound investigation and strict action against negligent officials. Sanjay Singh criticized the Delhi government minister’s statement blaming the family for the incident and emphasized that this was a case of government negligence resulting in preventable deaths.
During the zero-hour discussion, Sanjay Singh highlighted the gravity of the incident, which occurred just a few kilometers from the Parliament. The fire claimed the lives of nine people, including women and children, and rescue operations were hampered due to malfunctioning fire brigade equipment. According to Sanjay Singh, the fire brigade’s hydraulic ladders failed to function, and safety nets were absent, preventing people from escaping safely.

Sanjay Singh further mentioned that a nearby mattress shop owner offered to lay mattresses to help the children escape, but permission was denied. He termed the incident as a result of deliberate governmental negligence and demanded that responsible officials be booked under murder charges.
The MP also condemned the Delhi minister’s statement blaming the victims, saying that it was insensitive and unacceptable. Sanjay called for the resignation of the minister for making such statements and for accountability in handling emergency services.
Additionally, Sanjay alleged that during condolence gatherings, local legislators interfered and created disturbances, including an attack on a former MLA. He urged the government to ensure that the investigation is completed within a fixed time frame, and that both negligent officials and ministers are held accountable.
With this, Sanjay aims to bring justice to the victims of the Palam fire tragedy and to ensure that such negligence is not repeated in the future.
