Saurabh Bharadwaj questions Parvesh Verma’s court statement on Amarjeet Singh Babbu, citing social media posts and court directions to preserve evidence.
A fresh political controversy has emerged around the defamation case filed by Delhi Minister Parvesh Verma, with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Delhi president Saurabh Bharadwaj questioning Verma’s statement regarding his alleged association with Amarjeet Singh ‘Babbu’.
Addressing a press conference, Saurabh Bharadwaj claimed that Parvesh Verma told the court that he had no relationship with Babbu. Bharadwaj, however, pointed to several Facebook and X posts that he said showed Verma interacting with Babbu and members of his family.
Bharadwaj Questions Verma’s Court Statement
The dispute stems from a defamation case in which Verma has initiated both criminal and civil proceedings against Bharadwaj. According to Bharadwaj, the controversy began after he shared a social media post by Amarjeet Singh Babbu, who had thanked Verma for allegedly appointing him as a trustee of the S.S. Mota Singh School Charitable Trust.
Bharadwaj questioned the circumstances surrounding the appointment and sought clarity on Verma’s alleged connection with the trust.
He also raised questions over the availability of documents related to the trust, claiming that the District Magistrate’s office had said the relevant file could not be located.

Social Media Posts Cited in the Case
Saurabh Bharadwaj cited multiple posts from Verma’s social media accounts to challenge the claim that the minister did not know Babbu.
According to Bharadwaj, a Facebook post dated November 25, 2023, showed Verma attending the birthday celebration of Babbu’s granddaughter. Bharadwaj said the post referred to Babbu as “brother” and showed Verma participating in the family celebration.
He also referred to another Facebook post from October 2, 2022, in which Verma allegedly wished Babbu on his birthday and described him as an elder brother whom he had known since his college days.
2018 Event Also Mentioned
The AAP leader further referred to an X post from March 30, 2018. He claimed that Verma had publicly thanked Babbu and others for organising a medical camp held in memory of former Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma.
Bharadwaj said photographs from the event showed Verma and Babbu together on the stage. He argued that these posts and photographs raised questions about Verma’s statement in court.
The allegations made by Bharadwaj are part of the ongoing legal and political dispute and would ultimately be considered in the context of the proceedings before the court.
Court Asked to Preserve Social Media Material
The AAP leader also described an application submitted by his lawyer Rajat Bharadwaj before the court. According to him, the application sought directions preventing the deletion of Facebook and X posts that were being relied upon in the case.
The request also sought preservation of the material by Meta and X, including associated metadata and server information, even if the posts were subsequently removed.
Saurabh Bharadwaj said the court accepted the concern raised by his legal team and directed that the relevant posts should not be deleted while the matter was being considered.
Defamation Case Involves ₹5 Crore Civil Claim
Bharadwaj said the legal dispute includes a civil suit seeking ₹5 crore in damages along with criminal proceedings. He argued that since Verma himself approached the court, the statements made during the proceedings should be consistent with publicly available material.
He questioned why Verma would deny knowing Babbu despite the social media posts that, according to Bharadwaj, show interactions between the two over several years.
AAP Leader Intensifies Political Attack
Continuing his attack, Saurabh Bharadwaj alleged that Verma’s public posts contradict his position before the court. He said the matter should be examined on the basis of documents, photographs, videos and other available evidence rather than political claims.
Bharadwaj also criticised the BJP leadership in Delhi and questioned why the files related to the school trust had not been made public.
The controversy has added another political dimension to the ongoing defamation proceedings involving the AAP leader and the Delhi minister.
Legal Proceedings Remain in Focus
The court’s directions regarding preservation of the social media material could become significant as the defamation dispute progresses. The posts and other evidence cited by Bharadwaj are expected to remain part of the legal arguments surrounding the case.
Saurabh Bharadwaj has maintained that the issue is about establishing facts through publicly available records, while the proceedings will determine the legal merits of the competing claims.
The case is now being closely watched as both sides continue to present their positions before the court.
