AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj alleges major lapses in the Palam fire rescue operation, targeting the BJP government over fire equipment failure and the delayed DM report.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Saurabh Bhardwaj has launched a sharp attack on the BJP-led Delhi government over the Palam fire tragedy, alleging serious lapses in the rescue operation and accusing the administration of concealing shortcomings in the fire department’s response.
Referring to the recently published District Magistrate (DM) report, Bhardwaj claimed that the tragedy exposed critical failures in emergency response systems and questioned the delay in releasing the findings to the public.

Alleges Rescue Equipment Failed During Emergency
According to Saurabh Bhardwaj, the party had maintained from the very beginning that several victims could have been rescued if the fire brigade’s equipment had functioned properly.
He alleged that the Bronto sky lift deployed during the operation reportedly failed to open, while the manual ladder used afterward was not tall enough to reach the affected balcony. Bhardwaj claimed that these equipment failures significantly hampered rescue efforts during the incident.
Questions Handling of Rescue Operation
The AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj further alleged that local residents who attempted to assist in the rescue by spreading mattresses below the building were prevented from doing so by police and fire department personnel.
He argued that in several previous fire incidents across the country, quick action by local residents had helped save lives, and claimed that similar efforts were not allowed in the Palam tragedy.
Criticism Over Delay in DM Report
Saurabh Bhardwaj also criticized the time taken to make the District Magistrate’s report public, saying it took nearly six months before the findings became available. He described the delay as unfortunate and questioned the government’s transparency in handling the case.
He urged authorities to strengthen fire safety infrastructure, ensure regular maintenance of rescue equipment, and improve emergency response mechanisms to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
The AAP leader said accountability and timely action are essential to restoring public confidence in emergency services and ensuring better preparedness for future disasters.
