AAP MLA Chattar Vasava raises concerns over ST candidates facing injustice in Gujarat Revenue Talati recruitment. Representation submitted to GSSSB demands relaxation in minimum marks and fair opportunities.
AAP MLA Chattar Vasava has raised concerns over alleged injustice faced by Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates in the recent Revenue Talati recruitment process conducted by the Gujarat Subordinate Service Selection Board (GSSSB). In a formal representation submitted to the GSSSB Chairman, Chattar Vasava highlighted that a mandatory minimum of 40% marks has been fixed for each paper, violating constitutional provisions and reservation policies.
The recruitment involved approximately 2,389 Revenue Talati positions, with minimum marks set at 40% for ST candidates in Gujarati and English papers, amounting to 60 marks in a 150-mark paper. Vasava pointed out that setting the same minimum marks for reserved and unreserved candidates goes against Articles 16(4) and 335 of the Indian Constitution, which safeguard the rights of SC/ST candidates in government recruitment. He emphasized that such strict criteria may unjustly eliminate talented tribal candidates from the process, affecting their social and educational opportunities.

Chattar Vasava demanded that results for ST candidates under Advertisement No. 301 should be prepared separately, allowing appropriate relaxation in minimum marks across all papers. He warned that if the issue is not resolved immediately, the tribal community may resort to legal action or peaceful statewide protests to secure their rights.
The MLA Chattar Vasava also recommended the introduction of training and orientation programs for selected candidates to ensure proper guidance before joining the job. He underlined the essence of reservation, stating, “Reservation is not about ‘empty seats’ but about providing equal opportunities,” emphasizing the need for fairness and justice in the recruitment process.
This representation highlights the continuing struggle for equitable opportunities for tribal communities in Gujarat, calling for urgent corrective measures by GSSSB to uphold constitutional rights.
