Veteran actor Sunil Lahri, famously known for his portrayal of Lakshman in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan, has shared a critical review of Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming Ramayana teaser. In a recent interview, Lahri noted that while Ranbir is a fine actor, his appearance in the teaser “lacks innocence” compared to the iconic Arun Govil. He stated:
“Ranbir looks okay, but the innocence is a little less. The patience, calm, and innocence Arun had are missing here… He looks a little harsh; he suits more for Lakshmana or Bharat.”
Lahri also addressed the “baggage” of Ranbir’s previous intense roles, such as in Animal, suggesting that a superstar’s established image can make it difficult for audiences to accept them as a serene deity. He advocated for casting fresh faces in such legendary roles to maintain the character’s purity. Despite his critiques, Lahri expressed hope that Ranbir’s acting skills would eventually justify the role in the full film.
Nitesh Tiwari’s adaptation, featuring a star-studded cast including Sai Pallavi and Yash, is reportedly being made on a massive budget of ₹4,000 crore and is slated for a Diwali 2026 release.
