The Supreme Court will not hear Arvind Kejriwal’s plea seeking a seven-day extension of interim bail in a corruption case related to Delhi’s liquor policy. Last month, the court granted Mr Kejriwal interim bail to contest the Lok Sabha elections and asked him to surrender on June 2, a day after the final round of voting.
The Supreme Court registrar, while rejecting the petition, said the Delhi chief minister had the power to approach the trailcourt for regular bail and therefore the petition was “unexecutable”.
Mr Kejriwal sought an extension on health grounds and approached the court for an emergency hearing today.
Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing Kejriwal, said in the petition: “Given the increased health complications and risk symptoms, medical examination is necessary to protect him while serving his sentence “He also stressed that AAP leaders will continue to have “public appearances and contacts” while serving their sentences.
The Supreme Court on May 10 granted 21-day interim bail to the chief minister, who was arrested in a money laundering case related to excise policy ‘scam’,”, to enable him to campaign for the Lok Sabha polls.
It had directed that Mr Kejriwal to surrender on June 2, a day after the last phase of the seven-phase poll gets over.
