Speaking about the upcoming civic elections, Gopal Italia said that Manoj Sorathiya is the right choice to make Surat an international-level city. He highlighted that Manoj Sorathiya has been working continuously for the party for over 10–15 years without expecting any post, ticket, or personal benefit.

From Farmer Family to Political Candidate
Manoj Sorathiya comes from a farmer family in Bhavnagar district’s Mahuva taluka. Despite limited resources, he became a qualified pharmacist and later built a successful business career in the textile industry, dealing with waterjet machines at an international level.
He also had business offices in Surat, Delhi, and abroad, but left his professional success behind after being inspired by the anti-corruption movement of 2012. Since then, Manoj Sorathiya has been fully active in politics, working closely with AAP leadership.
Activism, Jail Movement, and Political Dedication
According to Gopal Italia, Manoj Sorathiya actively participated in multiple protests and even faced jail during movements in Mahuva. He never gave up his mission of bringing systemic change in politics.
This dedication has now resulted in his nomination as an AAP candidate for Ward No. 4 in the Surat Municipal Corporation Election 2026.
Vision for Surat as an International City
Gopal Italia emphasized that Surat is a globally important city known for its diamond and textile industries as well as international trade connections. However, he pointed out several civic issues such as poor roads, traffic congestion, waste management problems, corruption, and lack of proper urban planning.
He said Manoj Sorathiya has been chosen as a candidate because of his vision to transform Surat into an international-standard city with better infrastructure, education, healthcare, public transport, and civic services.
