UP Cabinet approves cashless medical facility for 11.92 lakh teachers and education staff under Ayushman scheme; disaster-affected families to get rehabilitation and housing support.
In a landmark decision, the UP Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, approved a cashless medical facility for over 11.92 lakh teachers and education staff across the state. This move ensures that teachers, instructors, and support staff will receive healthcare benefits similar to those available to state government employees.
The approval came during the UP Cabinet meeting held on Thursday, where the proposal to implement the scheme under the Ayushman framework was officially cleared. The initiative is expected to directly benefit 11.92 lakh education professionals, including Shikshamitras, instructors, and cooks, at an estimated cost of ₹358.61 crore.
Secondary Education Department to Benefit
The UP Cabinet also granted approval for the Secondary Education Department, covering 2,97,579 employees under the cashless medical scheme. The government will incur a total expenditure of ₹89.25 crore for this initiative. Employees already covered under existing schemes like Ayushman Bharat will not be eligible for duplicate benefits.
This decision follows CM Yogi Adityanath’s announcement on Teachers’ Day last year (September 5, 2025), promising a cashless healthcare scheme for the state’s teaching staff. The plan will be implemented similarly to the Ayushman scheme, ensuring a completely cashless process for all beneficiaries. Out of 32 proposals discussed in the cabinet, 30 were approved, while the 14th and 17th proposals were deferred.
